THE ROLE OF SCHOOL LIBRARIES IN THE PROVISION OF QUALITATIVE EDUCATION IN NIGERIA

Abstract

Libraries have ever the years contributed immensely to the provision of qualitative education in Nigeria. It is recognized as focal points of reference in all our educational institutions. In fact, no school will ever exist without a library. Library is always there to support what is taught in the classroom. Without it, teaching, learning, research and certification becomes impossible. It is therefore, the aim of this article to critically examine the role and the development of school in Nigeria libraries. Most school libraries in Nigeria are suffering largely due to poor funding and staffing. This negative trend, affects the school curriculum and students in terms of standard library services. In view of this, this article highlights the importance of school library to both students and teacher and how the school library can be properly caring for obtains effectiveness. School libraries are those libraries found in nursery, primary, and secondary schools they solely established to curriculum of schools and assist teachers with relevant information for their daily teaching and research.
