Abstract

The study sought to investigate the extent of awareness and violations of fundamental human rights in university of Nigeria, Nsukka. The research design was descriptive survey. Four research questions were formulated in the study. The population of the study comprised 182 students from the Department of Social Science Education (Political Science Unit), University of Nigeria Nsukka. The entire 182 students were selected using total enumeration sampling technique. A checklist on Awareness of Fundamental Human Rights by Undergraduate Students (AFHRUS)” and a questionnaire titled "Extent of Violation of Fundamental Human Rights in University of Nigeria, Nsukka (EVFHRUNN)" were used for data gathering. The data collected was analyzed using mean and standard deviation. The findings revealed among others that undergraduate students in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka are highly aware of their fundamental human rights. Recommendations were made that University administrators should establish a dedicated office to monitor, report, and address human rights violations, to provide support to victims and promote accountability.
